AMHERST?- The Amherst Ramblers travel to Antigonish tonight to take on the Bulldogs who sit in the basement of the Nova Scotia Jr. A Hockey League standings.
"It's unfortunate how their season is going," said Ramblers coach Corey Crocker. "They battle every team until the last minute and my hat goes off to those guys."
Despite their low place in the standings Crocker said the Bulldogs are not to be taken lightly.
"They work extremely hard so they're not an easy team to play against," said Crocker. "We expect a close match and we'll be prepared for them. They're a very good hockey team, they just haven't been getting the results."
Crocker says his team has been taking stupid penalties in their last few games and that it's time to get back to hockey fundamentals.
"We have to stick to our game plan and get back to playing more disciplined hockey," said Crocker. "Like I said, we are not in a sprint, we're in a marathon."
Tonight's game is a make-up game from a game that was cancelled on Jan. 18.
"We went down there a couple of Friday's ago and had to turn the bus around," said Crocker.
As coach and general manager of the Ramblers, it is ultimately Crocker's decision to turn the bus around in bad weather.
"We just don't want to travel on unsafe roads," said Crocker. "At the end of the day it's only the game of hockey, it's not about risking lives. It's about our players and as an organization we'll always take care of those kids first."
Tomorrow night the Ramblers will travel to Pictou to face off against the Weeks Crushers.
"We'll be playing two games in a row, but so what," said Crocker. "It's a game and the kids are young. They're full of energy and I don't expect it will have an effect on them."
The Ramblers return home Saturday where they will host the Woodstock Slammers.
