AMHERST - After being turned down by one goal scorer, the Amherst Ramblers may be on the verge of landing another and this one comes with family ties.
Just a couple of days after being told by Danny Morgan that he won't report to Amherst, the Ramblers have signed free agent forward Colin Escott - the brother of Rambler rookie forward Jordan Escott.
"He's a huge addition to our hockey club. We're just working a few minor details out now and we're not sure when he'll be here, but he's going to have a definite impact on our hockey club," Rambler coach Corey Crocker said on Monday.
Escott, 18, followed an exceptional Major Midget AAA careeer up by being drafted third overall in the QMJHL draft a couple of seasons ago by the Gatineau Olympics.
He spent parts of two seasons in Gatineau before returning to St. John's last year to pay with the Fog Devils for part of the year before leaving hockey.
He had five goals and 10 assists in 46 games for the Olympiques in his rookie season and picked up two assists in four games in his second year.
Crocker said Escott had some personal issues that he wanted to deal with before returning hockey and while he did not want to publicly say what they were, he said Escott is refocused and recommitted to playing hockey. He's also looking forward to joining his younger brother in the Rambler lineup.
"The players know and they're excited that he's coming," Crocker said. "I know Jordan is."
The younger Escott followed in his older brother's footsteps over the Christmas holiday when he represented Team Atlantic at the World Under 17 Hockey Challenge in London, Ont.
