Local teams shut out of second week action at Bluenose
KV Hawks nip Parrsboro in midget A final
SPRINGHILL - Brendon Roy's goal early in the third period was enough to push the KV Hawks of New Brunswick to a 3-2 win over the Parrsboro Predators in the midget A final at the 42nd Annual Carter's Sports Cresting Bluenose Minor Hockey Tournament here Sunday.
Andrew Brooks scored two goals for the Hawks, who trailed 1-0 after one period and were tied 1-1 after two. Chris Salter and Evan Canning replied for the Predators with B.J. Warren and Evan White adding assists.
Unlike last weekend, when the Midget Minor AAA Bombers won their division and the Peewee Ramblers finished second, Cumberland County teams were shut out of the medals during the closing weekend that featured play in atom, peewee, bantam and midget A and midget AA.
The Sackville, N.B. AIL Rangers romped to the atom A title with a convincing 9-0 win over the Lower Sackville Flyers as Liam Conrad scored three times with William Lafford scoring two goals and adding an assist.
Russ McCormack, Daniel Jenson, Madison Morrissey and Mitchel Mitton also scored for the Rangers, who went unbeaten through the three-day tournament.
In the peewee A division, the Sackville, N.B. McDonald's Macs lost a heart-breaking 1-0 decision to the Halifax Hawks, who got a first period goal by Nicholas Biron and rode the hot goaltending of Cameron Hayes to the win.
Halifax also won the bantam A division with a 2-1 win over the Lower Sackville Flyers as Jamie Blair scored both goals for the Hawks.
Brett Arthur replied for Lower Sackville.
Chad Hayman scored five times and the Truro Bearcats exploded for three first period goals en route to a 7-0 win over the Sackville Flyers to claim the midget AA banner.
Pat Hazelton and Jeremy Lynds also scored for Truro with Jordan Lauther and Craig Dale each adding two assists.
