AMHERST - While his team is not having a great season, Chris Morehouse is trying to make the most of his final season of major junior hockey.
The 20-year-old Amherst resident is in this third season with the Wildcats and already has a President's Cup and Memorial Cup final berth under his belt. Now he's looking to make an impression on pro and college scouts in hopes of continuing his career next season.
"It's my last year and I want to show the scouts and the university teams that I can play at the next level," Morehouse said while in Amherst watching his former team, the Amherst Ramblers.
The Wildcats won the Quebec league championship two seasons ago and went all the way to the Memorial Cup final before losing to the Quebec Remparts. While last season was supposed to be a bit of a rebuilding year the club exceeded expectations.
This year, things have not gone as well with the Wildcats sitting in seventh place in the Eastern Division with a 10-17-2-2 record only ahead of the P.E.I. Rocket.
"We're having an alright season. We were hoping to do a little better but we're improving with every game and coming together pretty good as a team," he said. If I don't get a chance to play professionally, I'd like to get a chance to play at the university level and work on my education."
Playing on a checking line with Zach Sill and Scott Brannon, Morehouse has six goals and seven assists for 13 points in 31 games while picking up 71 penalty minutes.
"I'm playing on a really good line with Scott Brannon and Zack Sill. We play a physical game and are usually put out against the other's teams top lines," the 5'9", 180-pound left-winger said.
Morehouse, who lives in Amherst in the offseason, remains a fan favourite in Moncton. He was awarded the Community Spirit Award twice and the Unsung Hero Award last season.
