Ramblers drop Showcase opener
MONCTON - A sloppy defensive first period came back to haunt the Amherst Ramblers as they dropped a 3-1 decision to the Miramichi Timberwolves in MJAHL Showcase action in Moncton Saturday night.
Carl Haynes and Dustin Basque each scored first period goals for the Timberwolves, who outshot the Ramblers 17-5 in the opening stanza and 43-20 in the game.
Amherst returns to action Sunday at 8 p.m. against the Moncton Beavers at the J. Louis Levesque Arena at the University of Moncton.
Andrew Oakley scored the lone Rambler goal in the second period on the power play with Matthew Squires and Travis Turner adding assists.
Scott Estey scored on the power play midway through the third period to round out the scoring.
The loss snapped the Rambler winning streak at three games.
The club returns home for a Tuesday night game against the Timberwolves at 7:30 p.m. at the Amherst Stadium. In other Showcase action, Scott McManaman had a goal as the Pictou County Weeks Crushers doubled the Summerside Western Capitals 4-2 earlier Saturday.
