Squires scores in shootout win over Moncton
Ramblers split Showcase action
MONCTON The Amherst Ramblers continued their hot play over the weekend splitting action at the second MJAHL Showcase Weekend at the J. Louis Levesque Arena in Moncton.
Matthew Squires scored the winner in a shootout as the Ramblers nipped the Moncton Beavers 2-1.
The win came 24 hours after the Ramblers were dropped 3-1 by the Miramichi Timberwolves in the Showcase opener.
Against Moncton, Chuckie Schenbr scored in the first period period to give the host Beavers an early lead before Jason Power scored for the Ramblers in the second period to tie the score with Adam Chipman adding the lone assist.
The teams went scoreless in the third period and overtime before Squires scored the lone goal of the shootout.
On Saturday, the Ramblers looked sluggish in their loss to Miramichi, their first setback in four games.
Carl Hayes, Daniel Basque on the power play, and Scott Estey scored for the Timberwolves, who play in Amherst on Tuesday at 7:30 p.m.
Andrew Oakley scored the lone Rambler goal on the power play at 3:45 of the second period from Squires and Travis Turner.
Rambler goalie Andrew Flemming was solid throughout the weekend earning second star honours in both games, turning aside 40 shots against Miramichi and 31 against Moncton.
