Hard work pays off for Ramblers in 4-2 win

CAMPBELLTON - The Amherst Ramblers scored twice on the power play and added an empty-netter en route to a 4-2 win over the Restigouche Tigers in MJAHL action here last night.

After the Tigers jumped out to a 2-0 lead after one on goals by Junior Cadiz and Kevin Medina, Jason Power and Derek Smith scored in the second period and Andrew Oakley and Matt Squires scored in the third for the win.

"We started off slow in the first period, but the boys played a very good defensive hockey game," coach Corey Crocker said. "The boys battled hard every single shift."

Andrew Shears made the most of his return to the lineup with a pair of assists while Adam Chipman, Jordan Escott, Travis Turner and Zach Carson each added assists. Andrew Flemming made 28 saves.

"It's a new season and the guys are learning things quickly. They're learning defence wins hockey games."

Amherst returns to action at the MJAHL Showcase Weekend on Saturday in Moncton when they face the Miramichi Timberwolves while on Sunday they face the Moncton Beavers.
