Roach nets pair leading Blues past Ducks 8-2

Veteran forward Cody Roach scored twice and six others found the back of the net as the Cumberland County Cool Blues earned an 8-2 victory over the St. Margaret's Bay Ducks in Nova Scotia Junior B Hockey League exhibition action Friday.

SPRINGHILL - Veteran forward Cody Roach scored twice and six others found teh back of the net as the Cumberland County Cool Blues earned an 8-2 victory over the St. Margaret's Bay Ducks in Nova Scotia Junior B Hockey League exhibition action Friday.

The Blues came out hard in the first period and took control of the game outshooting the Ducks 15-5 and fired four unanswered goals to start things off.

Kirk Kelly connected on an unassisted effort at 7:07 to score the first goal of the Blues exhibition campaign. Then less than a minute later at 8:08, Mark Rozak found the mesh when he finished off a play started by Seth Crowe.

David Burke made it 3-0 for the Blues at 13:48 with Huey McGuish and Kelly earning assists. Ryan Kay made it 4-0 at 17:22 with Matt Noiles assisting.

The second period saw the Bay Ducks come to life and the play started to balance out.

Just 26 seconds into the period, Travis Whiteside put the Ducks on the scoreboard.

The Blues regained a four-goal lead when R.J. Sears finished off a play from Burke and McGuish at 4:03.

Slaunwhite came back at 8:02 for the Ducks.

Just 30 seconds later at 8:32, the Blues struck again when Ryan Smith tallied followed .at 13:59, with Roach getting a feed from Andrew Brennan and Nathan Lavigne for 7-2 lead at the end of the period.

The lone goal of the third period was a short-handed effort by Roach at 17:21 for his second goal of the game. Justin Cortes picked up an assist on the goal.

Landon Crowe earned the win for the Blues stopping 31 of the 33 shots he faced. Jared Johnson started in goal for the Ducks facing 35-shots and stopping 28. Chris Banfield came into the game at the start of the third period for the Ducks and kicked out seven of the eight shots he faced.
