AMHERST  Its an annual summer ritual for many young hockey players.

Each year parents send their aspiring Sidney Crosbys and Haley Wickenheisers to hockey schools throughout the Maritimes. This year, they can remain in Cumberland County and learn the game from some of this areas top coaches.

The Amherst Ramblers and the Cumberland County Cool Blues are joining forces to host a hockey school at the Richard Calder Arena in Springhill from Aug. 20 to 24.

You shouldnt have to leave this area to get top notch summer instruction. Our hockey school will offer just that, Rambler coach Corey Crocker said.

The camp is accepting 98 players including nine goalies and 90 skaters (boys and girls).

Participants will receive a hockey school jersey, three hours a day of on-ice training along with one hour a day of hockey specific off-ice training and an hour a day of classroom instruction.

Therell be a banquet at the end of the camp while instruction will also include video analysis of powerskating, report cards and a motivation booklet for the upcoming season.

The hockey school will cover shooting, passing, stick-handling, pwerskating, team concepts, fundamental training for all players, off-ice leadership and training, healthy living and will be done in a fun way, Crocker said.

Instructors will be present and pass players from both the Ramblers and the Blues. Therell be canteen services available during the school and Crocker is confident therell be a special guest instructor during one day of the school including Michael Ryder of the Montreal Canadiens, Dan Cleary of the Detroit Red Wings or former St. Louis Blues great Al McInnis. On-ice sessions will be run by Crocker, Ron Reynolds and Jeff Lewis.
