AMHERST - Female hockey players from all three Maritime Provinces will be represented at the 2007 Pugsleys Pharmacy/Mrs. Pugsleys Emporium Ron Elliott Tournament.
The event features four teams competing in the Mrs. Pugsleys Emporium Bantam Division including Sussex Red Wings, defending bantam champion Moncton Thrashers, Pictou County Pipers and host Cumberland County.
The Pugsleys Pharmacy Midget division is split into two groups, with River Valley Ducks, Sussex Avalanche and Parrsboro Predators playing out of Division A and an all Prince Edward Island affair in Division B comprising of Montague, Pownal Red Devils and the defending midget champion North River Flames.
The annual tournament is named after the late Ronnie Elliott Jr. who collapsed on the ice in Cocagne, N.B. in November 1998 while playing hockey with the Amherst Mooseheads. He was 40.
The tournament has been a success, asserting itself to be one of the premiere female events each hockey season. Tournament chairperson Chuck Linney has seen the tournament grow over the past number of years and credits the events success to several factors.
Foremost in the success of the tournament comes through the support of Cumberland County Minor Hockey Association and its executive. They have been very supportive over the past number of seasons.
We are very fortunate for a number of other things that attribute to the success of the tournament. Beth Munroe from Pugsleys Pharmacy and Mrs. Pugsleys Emporium have been with us for a number of years and has supported us so well.
