Swift Current’s Taylor Kinch fired rounds of 84 and 87 to place third at the Maple Leaf Junior Golf Tour event at Deer Valley Golf and Estates in Lumsden.
Kinch, 13, finished 18 shots back of Headingley, Manitoba’s Brendan Kesterke for top spot in the Boys 13 & Under division.
Swift Current’s Matt Reimer was four shots back in fourth place (91-84=175), followed by Swift Current’s Brody Knelson in fifth spot (90-96=186).
Four Southwest golfers took part in the Boys 14-16 division led by Jessy-Lee Lacher in 11th spot (93-80=173).
Shaunavon’s Corey Bailey (85-91=176) and Swift Current’s Logan Tisdale (87-89=176) tied for 12th, while Swift Current’s Marcus Kouri was 17th (101-99=200).
Calgary’s Matt Williams topped all 17 golfers with a four-under-par 140 to earn a paid entry into a US Junior Sectional Qualifier as well as a spot on the MJT’s shortlist for the Junior World Championships in San Diego in July.
Reimer won the Sundog Skill Competition and the Golf Town Comeback Award in the Boys 13 & Under division, while Lacher won the Comeback Award in the Boys 14-16 division.
Swift Current’s stop on the MJT Tour is quickly approaching. The MJT Prodigy Series will visit the Chinook and Elmwood Golf Courses on July 2-3. The MJT Mini Tour will visit the Elmwood Golf Club on July 3.
