Smith in top 10 of MNP Men's Order of Merit Tour

Swift Current's Taylor Smith is eighth overall in the Meyers Norris Penny Men’s Order of Merit Tour.

Smith, from the Elmwood Golf and Country Club, has 285 points on the Order of Merit Tour, sits in the top 10 in the updated tour standings as of July 14.

He opened the year placing tied for ninth at the North Ridge Saskatoon Amateur Championship with rounds of 77 and 78 to finish seven strokes behind the tournament winners.

After placing tied for 38th at the RBC Open in Nipawin at the start of June, he roared back to tie for fourth at the Saskatchewan Men's Publinx Championship in Regina. Smith shot identical rounds of 73 to finish with a two-day 146, four shots off the lead.

Smith is the two-time defending champion of the Elmwood Golf Club's annual Labour Day Classic.

Saskatoon's Brad Phelps leads the standings with 757.5 points, with Tyler Frank of Saskatoon holding down second spot with 450 points.
