Gross second at Callaway Classic

Swift Current’s Jeff Gross placed second at the 2010 CPGA of Saskatchewan’s Callaway Classic after losing in a playoff to Dean Brown of the Royal Regina Golf Club.

Gross led all 72 golfers after day one with a 68 in the opening round at the Willows Golf & Country Club in Saskatoon on Monday.

Brown rebounded Tuesday with a tournament best 67 on day two to tie Gross at -5 over 36 holes. Gross fired a 71 on day two to set-up the playoff hole.

Brown eventually came up victorious on the first playoff hole with a birdie in three shots. Brown captured $2,200 of the total $11,955 purse for the win, while Gross pocketed $1,800.

Jeff Chambers, of the Elmwood Golf and Country Club, tied for eighth spot at two over par. He fired twin rounds of 73 to earn $455 in a three-way tie at 146.
