Twelve teams attending bonspiel this weekend
AMHERST - The rink will be pink this weekend as the Amherst Ladies Curling Club hosts its annual Carter's Cresting Bonspiel.
Teresa Currie, co-ordinator for this year's event, said the weekend is a lot of fun, all the while supporting the club.
"We have 12 teams registered for this year, from all over the Maritimes," Currie said last night.
Play begins Friday at 6:30 p.m., and wrap up with a supper and prizes around 5 p.m., Saturday.
In the last seven years, roughly $10,000 was raised through the event.
"This year, we have a band Friday night, the Morgan Keith Band, and everyone is welcome to come on down," Currie said.
Carter's Sports Cresting will provide the prizes for the evening, as well as the trophy to be presented to the winning team.
"As the sponsor, we really enjoy being involved in this event," Mark Carter said, with his wife Brenda adding that he was a past curler as well.
During the weekend, two prizes will be drawn for, including a lighthouse wall hanging throw donated by Ruth Thompson.
The other draw will be for a basket of goodies, with items such as candles and lotions.
A door prize will also be given away during the event.
