AMHERST - Home course favourites Gary Carter and Gary Lucci fired five birdies and one bogey to take a one stroke lead heading into the tomorrow's final round the 2009 NSGA Senior Men's 4 Ball being held at Amherst Golf and Country Club.
Sitting in the second spot is the team of Jim MacDonald and Clarke Savage who carded a 3 under par 68. The team from the Abercrombie Golf Club had a steady round with 15 pars and 3 birdies on holes 3, 16 and 17.
Holding onto the third spot is the team of George Davis (Ashburn) and Ducky Webber (Brightwood) who finished today's round with a one under par 70.
There is a two-way tie for first place in the second division. The teams of Paul Christie (Ashburn) and Bob Atherton (Amherst) and Duane Vansnick (Amherst) and Doug Downey (Amherst) fired a 2 over par 73.
Peter Hope and Don O'Hearn from Brightwood are in third spot after carding a 75.
There is also a tie for first place in the third division. The Avon Valley team of Brian VanTassel and Don Morash share the top spot in the third division with the Frank Barteaux (Avon Valley) and Richard Vansnick (Amherst). The two teams shot a 6 over par 77.
For the second time in the 24-year history of the Senior Men's 4 Ball, a hole one was recorded in today's round. Stephen MacDonald from Hartlen Point fired a hole-in-one today on the 155 yard, 15th hole using a 7-iron.
The tournament wraps up tomorrow after the second round.
