AMHERST - After three years, the Highland Classic Cup is back in Cumberland County.

A team from PolyCello captured the cup on Friday, ending a three-year streak of companies outside of the county taking the top spot.
"It's wonderful to not only have seen the crew from PolyCello win the Classic Cup, but that it went to a local company that has always supported health care locally," said David Wood, chair of the Cumberland Health Care Foundation, which benefits from the golf tournament.
Despite the threat of showers on an otherwise hot Friday afternoon, 33 teams hit the greens of the Amherst Golf Course to play the 14th annual Highland Classic Charity tournament.
More than $30,000 was raised in support of the foundation for local health care initiatives.
Historically, the event has been one of the more expensive charity tournaments to play with a greater portion of pharmaceutical and medical equipment companies located elsewhere participating.
This year, however, there weren't as many of those pharmaceutical and medical equipment companies involved in play.
"We were a bit worried about team registration this year. We were told by quite a few previous corporate sponsors that the downturn in the markets had meant a reduction in dollars available to support hospital foundation golf tournaments," Wood said.
"We were lucky and fortunate that we managed to gain approximately a 20 per cent new team rate from the county," said Wood.
"We're extremely thankful for the many committed residents and companies of Cumberland who believed that the Classic Charity event is a tournament worth supporting."
Although there were no winners of the four $30,000 hole-in-one prizes, the following teams and individuals took the following categories:
Closest to the pin on hole #9 (men) - Dale Fawthrop
Closest to the pin on hole #15 (men) - David Quigley
Closest to the pin on hole #4 (ladies) - Phyllis Longobardi
Closest to the pin on hole #13 (ladies) - Dana Carr
Longest Drive on hole #8 (ladies) - Karen Works
Longest Drive on hole #11 (ladies) - Diana Bacon
Longest Drive on hole #2 (men) - Allen Fromm
Longest Drive on hole #11 (men) - Greg Cormier
Putting Contest Winners - AECON Cobequid Pass.
