Rumancik eagles 15th to win MJT stop in Swift Current

Maple Creek's Brennan Rumancik fired a one under par 70 in the second and final round of the Maple Leaf Junior Tour Tournament at the Elmwood Golf Course on Sunday to earn a one-shot win over 18 other competitors.


Maple Creek's Brennan Rumancik fired a one under par 70 in the second and final round of the Maple Leaf Junior Tour Tournament at the Elmwood Golf Course on Sunday to earn a one-shot win over 18 other competitors.

After an opening round of 73 on Saturday Rumancik sat in third spot and opened the second round with a double bogey on the par-four first hole.

Rumancik recovered however with birdies on holes four and eight before essentially clinching the win with an eagle on the par-five 15th hole to top Regina's Braeden Mueller by one shot with a two-round total of 143.

Swift Current's Mark Johnstone fired a pair of 74's to finish in fifth spot with a two-round score of 148.

Swift Current's Skyler LeBel placed 13th with rounds of 77 and 85 for a total of 162.

Swift Current's Mickey Wallace shot rounds of 79 and 90 to finish in 18th with a total of 169.

In the boys 14-16 and under category Swift Current' Keegan Braaten was the top finisher with scores of 86 and 92 for a total of 178.

Swift Current's Jessy-Lee Lacher finished two shots back in 24th with a pair of rounds of 90.

In the girls division Kaitlyn Blackmer finished second overall with rounds of 86 and 84 for a total of 170.

Katie Avram placed third with rounds of 85 and 86, one shot back of Blackmer.

The MJT winds up its Saskatchewan schedule on July 14th and 15th with the Srixon Series CPGA of Saskatchewan Junior Championship at the Willows Golf Club in Saskatoon, a qualifier for the Jack Newton International Junior Classic in Sydney, Australia.
