High school golf to take over the Elmwood today

Over 100 high school golfers from across the province will be on the golf course today at the Swift Current Comprehensive High School's fourth annual golf tournament at the Elmwood Golf Course.

Over 100 high school golfers from across the province will be on the golf course today at the Swift Current Comprehensive High School's fourth annual golf tournament at the Elmwood Golf Course.

Participants from Swift Current, Prince Albert St. Mary, Prince Albert Carlton, Weyburn, Burstall, Morse, Herbert, Moose Jaw Peacock, Moose Jaw Riverview, Moose Jaw Central are expected to be in action for the 11 a.m. shot-gun start using the Stableford Scoring System.

Golfers will compete for medals in four divisions as well as the boy's and girl's team events.

The SCCHS golf team consists of 40 members in grades nine to 12.

The Ardens will be led by grade 12's Kaitlyn Blackmer and Katie Avram who finished second and third respectively in last year's event.

On the Colts side grade 12 Keagan Barker placed third last year and will be back to try and improve on his previous result. Blake Weston placed second last year in the grade 9/10 division and will compete this year in the 11/12 division.

Grade 10 Cody Schapansky will also look to retain his grade 9/10 tournament title.

In the boy's team event Mickey Wallace, Weston, Mark Johnston, and John McConnell will attempt to retain their tournament title.

In the girl's team event Blackmer and Avram will also try and repeat their 2008 first-place finish.

Newcomers to the SCCHS golf team this season include grade 10 Leah Tuelon and grade 9's Keegan Braaten, Brooklyn Hagman, Shelby LeBel, Ashley Sauder, and Lacey Duncan.
