CLYDE RIVER, P.E.I. Searchers have found the body of a young P.E.I. man who went missing after leaving a New Years Eve party at a golf course during a howling blizzard.

The body of Kyle Alvin Bambrick, 18, was found around 11:30 a.m. Sunday after a police service dog caught a scent near the bank of the Clyde River behind the Dog River golf clubhouse.

Bambrick was last seen around 3 a.m. on Thursday when he headed out into the severe snowstorm in the rural community of Clyde River, west of Charlottetown.

We can confirm that our search and rescue teams were able to find the body of Mr. Bambrick in the Clyde River area, RCMP Sgt. Denis Morin said Sunday.

Following direction from some volunteer searchers, it was with the help of the police services dog that we were able to make the discovery.

Morin said the body was recovered from an open field near the river about a kilometre away from where Bambrick was last seen.

Morin could not provide detail about circumstances surrounding the death other than to say investigators were still trying to piece together what happened.

Police and volunteers scoured the Clyde River area for two days interviewing witnesses and using poles to probe snowbanks and metre-high drifts along exposed rural roads.

Morin added that an investigation into the cause of death will be ongoing with the help of the coroners office.

With the search over, friends and family have begun the grieving process.

In a way it was a relief, just because of the closure, said Kate Aitkens, a friend of Bambricks.

But at the same time, its just heartbreaking. You never want to hear those words or get that call.

Aitkens, like many of Bambricks friends, had been with him New Years Eve. She had only kind words for him.

He was just always there to put a smile on your face, she said. Everyone just loved him. He was just a perfect person. He loved life and he had so much talent.

Members of Bambricks family declined to comment Sunday.
