AMHERST - Laura Conrad and Kaitlyn Dawson have accomplished something nobody else in Amherst Regional High School history have ever managed to do.

AMHERST - Laura Conrad and Kaitlyn Dawson have accomplished something nobody else in Amherst Regional High School history have ever managed to do.

They won provincial medals at the high school golf championships recently held in Truro.

The golf program has been here for over a decade and this is the first medal ever for our program, ARHSs golf coach Charlie Chambers said.

Dawson and Conrad took the bronze after posting a 105 and a 111 respectively on the 18-hole course in Truro.

Their scores were added together and coming out with a win surprised Conrad

I didnt play that well so it felt good to win, Conrad said.

Winning gold in the competition was Wolfvilles Horton High and silver went to South Colchester.

Despite the wet conditions that left both girls wet up to their knees, they said their short game was really working well for them.

The putting was kind of rough because of the wet, sandy greens, Dawson said.

Conrad is in grade 12 and Kaitlyn is in grade 11 and both girls have been in the high school golf program since grade nine.

They bring a lot of fun to the golf team, Chambers said. They are both good girls and good students.

Kaitlyns favourited golfer is Annika Sorenstam while Conrad said her favourite is Laurie Kane.

Neither girl is impressed with Michelle Wies golf game.

She should try to do well on the LPGA tour before she even attempts the PGA, Kaitlyn said.

I think she should play with the women and quit trying to do something she cant do.

Dawson will continue to play on the high school golf team next year and Conrad said she would continue to play after graduation.
