Observations on both the positive and negative

A lot of events and activities occur each week in the Great Southwest. Some are good and deserve a cheer or a pat on the back. Sadly, a lot of not so great things happen as well. Here is what we noticed this week.

How about a great big cheer for the Broncos? After the first two weeks of the season the Broncos are undefeated and are considered one of the top teams in Canadian Junior Hockey. Lots of people say it is way too soon to tell how good the club really is but why not enjoy the ride while it lasts.
A big cheer also goes to the Swift Current Chamber of Commerce as they are asking for nominations for Citizen of the Year. There are lots of great candidates out there that would be worthy recipients of this award. Don't be afraid to nominate some one that you think is a great citizen of Swift Current.
The City of Swift Current should also get a cheer for finishing the landscaping along Central Avenue-George Street and the #1 Highway Eastbound ramp. The new grass looks great and it sure helps improve the appearance of this area which quite often is the first area that visitors to our city see.
A couple of weeks ago Bob and Dixie Black and friends held a golf tournament at Cypress Hills Golf Course. It was a great time with great food and great friends.
The proceeds of the tournament were donated to the recruitment of doctors for the Maple Creek Hospital. A big cheer for Bob and company!
Another cheer has to go to the Swift Current Comprehensive High School Golf Team as they captured the Silver Medal at the Saskatchewan High School Athletic Association Championships. Great job by all involved!
Jeers to the TSN announcers that went on and on about how rowdy the Saskatchewan Roughrider fans were during the last home game against the B.C. Lions. Just because a handful of fans acted like dummies, don't go on and on about it. It almost makes you wonder if you are jealous of the great support the Riders have compared to a lot of other teams in the Canadian Football League.
Sadly, a big boo does have to go out towards our Sask. Roughriders with regards to their offensive performance on Sunday in Montreal. Yes, the Riders have a lot of injuries on offence but you still have to play the game regardless of the injuries. Last week's game was truly an offensive performance by the offence.
A big jeer goes to the car that raced up and down South Railway Street at three in the morning the other day. Risking your life is one thing but you are putting a whole lot of other people at risk. If you thought you impressed anyone with your driving skills, you thought wrong.
Keep the cheers coming and hopefully the jeers going.
