Amherst Golf Club opening Friday
Going for the green
AMHERST - Amherst golfers salivating for a chance to get on the golf course will soon have their craving satisfied.
"We are going to open Friday at noon," head golf pro and general manager at the Amherst Golf Club, Frank McShane said.
Golfers are going to find the greens in tip top condition.
"Peter McCabe, our superintendent, and the boys outside have been working pretty hard to get things going," McShane said. "Peter said he's only seen the greens this good once before in 20 years," McShane added.
Golfers will also be treated to other changes in the course.
"We've added a fairway bunker on number 3, which is a new addition, and in the fall we are going to be building the first tee and the cart paths around the first tee."
McShane said it's a very early start for the Amherst Golf Club, "The weather's been so good and the snow's cleared off early. When we looked at things at the beginning of April we weren't expected to be going until early May. The course is in incredible shape."
McShane will have one other club pro helping him out on the course.
"Michael Archibald is a local young fellow who has been shooting around the club for years," McShane said. "He turned pro last year, so he's just starting out in the business."
