AMHERST (Staff) - The Amherst Fire Department is hosting the Maritime Firefighters Association annual golf tournament here this weekend.
A total fo 71 participants will take part in the two-day event at the Amherst Golf and Country Club. Included in the participants are Amherst firefighters and former champion Steven Bird, Vern Megeney, Ron Curtis, John Matthews, Greg Jones, Paul Lacey, Otis White, Jodi MacKenzie and Raymond MacDonald.
Other participants are firefighters from Nova Scotia, New Brunswick and Prince Edward Island.
The first day of play will be stroke play while the second day is a scramble format, based on scores from day one.
"This event is all about camaraderie and fellowship among our brothers and sisters in Maritime Fire departments,' co-ordinator Vern Megeney said.
"In addition to the golf, we have a number of fun events planned including a meet and greet on Friday night and Mexican night on Saturday. This will allow us to gather, tell some firefighter stories and enjoy meeting new folks from throughout the region,' he added.
Saturday's play starts at 12:30 p.m. in a shotgun start and Sunday' scramble gets underway at 8 a.m.
