AMHERST - The Amherst Golf Club will play host to the ladies division's best women golfers at the ladies championship this weekend.
Nearly 20 golfers will match up against last year's winner Sue Seaborn, an 18-time club champ, when the action starts at 11 a.m. Saturday.
Club pro Frank McShane said Seaborn is the early favourite to win again this year, but Rachel Smith and Heather Mitton should be within reach of the field the entire weekend.
Seaborn dominated the ladies championship for years, but didn't compete in recent championships due to health reasons. She came back with a bang last year and looks as strong as ever to McShane.
"She should be pretty tough this year. She's a good all-around player. She chips and putts pretty good, she hits it pretty long off the tee," McShane said. "She's just a solid player all the way around."
The 2007 ladies champ will be declared by 4 p.m. Sunday.
