Bang, bang youre dead...well, sort of

NORTHPORT Three years in the making, one trial tournament and a lot of hard work has prepared Jesses Extreme Paintball for the first annual Northport Mayhem tournament.

Paintballers from Cape Breton, Annapolis Valley, Moncton, Amherst and Northport will converge for just the second tournament ever held at Jesses Extreme Paintball in Northport on Saturday.

Last year the Northport paintball range held its first ever tourney in late October, but with a disappointing turnout, owner Jesse Brine realized the first week of July would be a much better fit for everyone who wanted to be involved.

Seven teams are signed up so far for the three-man open rookie class competition.

The 19-year-old Brine has been running his paintball range for nearly three years, building it from the ground up. He and some of his friends make up the Northport Warriors, who travel once a month to various locations for tournaments.

I enjoy getting people together and playing paintball and hosting, Brine said.

(I do this for) the excitement of playing. Its the rush that you get. Its quite extreme.

Brine would like to get some more teams in by Saturday morning and welcomes people to come and watch as well.

Its a new sport and its always nice to get out and get active and its something different. Its fun to watch, its fun to play, he said. Itd probably be interesting (to watch) because its new and some people dont see it often.

For more information, or to get involved in tomorrows Northport Mayhem, contact Brine at 661-1281. The action starts at 9:30 a.m.
