The Swift Current Comp. Colts concluded the regular season in the Moose Jaw High School Football League with a 34-13 loss to the visiting Moose Jaw AE Peacock Tornadoes on Friday at Colts Field.
The Colts played an outstanding first half and trailed 8-7, but allowed 26 points in the second half to finish the regular season with a 0-6 record.
The Colts took a 7-1 lead early in the second quarter when quarterback Josh Siemens plunged into the endzone from one yard out.
Wide receiver Jaylen Mayall scored the other touchdown on a 15-yard reception in the third quarter.
The Colts allowed 416 yards of total offense, but stayed in the game by recovering four fumbles and losing only one. They were unable to contain Tornadoes running back Nathan Fall, who scampered for 180 yards on 19 carries, including 60 and 35-yard majors.
“It was disappointing,” said Siemens. “We kind of fell apart at the end. The game doesn’t mean anything in the standings but we haven’t beat Peacock in a long time, so it would have meant a lot to beat them. We were that close.”
The Colts will travel to Estevan (2-4) for the quarter-final on Tuesday. The Colts dropped both games to the Elecs this season.
“We have been close in both those games too. I think that we are due for a win against Estevan, so I think we are pretty confident going into that one,” said Siemens, who completed nine passes for 133 yards in the loss.
