Hockey Mounties lose heartbreaker to Huskies

SACKVILLE, N.B. - A rough season got no better for the Mount Allison Mounties women's hockey team, as the Saint Mary's Huskies skated away with a 5-4 overtime decision over the hosts in Atlantic University Sport play Sunday at the Tantramar Civic Centre.
The Mounties have lost eight straight games, are are in the basement of the seven-team AUS with a 1-15-1 record.
Goalscorers were unavailable at press time.
Other results from Mount Allison weekend action included:
BASKETBALL - The Mounties' men's and women's teams were busy with Atlantic Colleges Athletic Association doubleheaders versus the St. Thomas Tommies and Holland College Hurricanes.
On Saturday in Fredericton, the Mounties dropped both ends of the twinbill to the Tommies, the men falling 68-59 and the women 51-36.
Kent Matheson paced the men with 13 points, and Josh Graham and Akili Smith chipped in 10 points apiece. Mount Allison couldn't hold on to a four-point lead, 35-31, at halftime.
Meghan Dickie netted a double-double for the women with 14 points and 14 rebounds. St. Thomas held a 30-15 lead at the half.
On Sunday in Sackville, the Mounties bounced back to win both games over the Hurricanes. The men prevailed 96-69 and the women 52-43.
Graham led the way for the men with 16 points, including nine-of-11 shooting from the free-throw line. Dickie had another solid effort for the women with 24 points, eight rebounds and five steals.
VOLLEYBALL - The Mount Allison women were on the court twice in ACAA play, taking both ends of a home-and-home series with the Nova Scotia Agricultural College Rams.
On Saturday in Sackville, Mount Allison needed the minimum three games for the victory, by scores of 25-23, 25-11 and 25-11. Cassandra Muldoon-Gorchynski was named the player of the game for the winners.
On Sunday in Bible Hill, the Mounties won in three straight again, by scores of 25-13, 25-15 and 25-11. Allison Settle got the nod as player of the game for Mount Allison.
