The Maple Creek Redmen, behind a dominating running game, ran past the visiting Gull Lake Lions on Saturday to reach next Saturday's SWAC nine-man football championship game.
Redmen running back Adam Weninger scampered for four touchdowns along the ground including a 61-yard effort early in the fourth quarter as the Redmen topped the Lions 42-1 to keep their championship hopes alive.
Weninger scored three first-half touchdowns to help put the Redmen ahead 20-0 before John Weiss caught a 20-yard pass from quarterback Mario Ladouceur in the endzone for a 27-0 halftime lead.
With the game already out of reach following Weninger's fourth touchdown run, the Redmen got some of their younger players into the game and quarterback Thabo Mthembu hooked up with Don He for a 19-yard touchdown pass to put an exclamation point on the win.

"You have to be pleased with the score," said Maple Creek head coach Dale Udal. "We moved the ball really well and defensively we shut them down for most of the game. I guess from a coaching standpoint though we took a lot of mental penalties, procedures, holdings, things that we can and should eliminate for provincial playoffs if we expect to go anywhere."
Next Saturday at 1 p.m. the Shaunavon Shadows will host the Redmen in the SWAC final. In two previous meetings the Shadows came out on top 49-28 and 10-7.
