The Swift Current Comp. Colts football team got touchdowns from four different players on their way to a 31-10 win over the host Estevan Elecs on Saturday. Joel Rempel, Cole Bablitz, Tyler Helms, and Tanner Duncan all scored majors for the Colts as they used a balanced attack to post 345 yards of total offense. Dalton Fisher also added three singles and averaged 32 yards on three punts.

On defense the Colts held the Elecs to 212 yards and recovered three fumbles as well as a Cody Bolotniuk interception that he returned for 90 yards.

Tanner Duncan carried the ball 14 times for 135 yards and a touchdown as he averaged 9.6 yards per carry for the Colts who totaled 179 yards on the ground.

Cole Bablitz also rushed for 31 yards on six carries.

Quarterback Mike Nicholson was 10 for 20 through the air for 166 yards.

Rempel made six receptions for 71 yards to lead a Colts receiving corps that also got catches from Bablitz, Duncan, and Helms.

The Colts were forced to overcome some penalty issues as they were penalized for 140 yards on 14 penalties compared to only 85 yards on eight flags for the Elecs.

“We’re happy to get the win, but we know that there a lot of areas that we can clean up,” said head coach Derek Murdoch. “We took a lot of penalties, which is usually something we don't do. We had a touchdown taken off the board in the first quarter because of a mental mistake that lead to a penalty and defensively we extended a couple of Estevan’s drives by taking undisciplined penalties. We addressed that after the game and we'll spend a lot of time talking about it this week.”

Central is a physical team and we'll have to match their intensity between the whistles Head coach, Derek Murdoch

“Offensively, we were very balanced,” he continued. “We had success running the ball and passing it. Our running backs ran really well and both of our slotbacks had touchdown catches. Our defense played well again, giving up one touchdown in the first quarter. We’ve played two games now and only have given up three touchdowns. That’s a pretty good stat. On special teams, we were solid. On the whole, we controlled the football game, even though we made a bunch of mistakes that we can clean up. It was nice to get that first win out of the way so that we can focus on playing Central.”

Murdoch said that discipline will be crucial on Friday when the Cyclones blow into town.

“From what I've seen of game film and the stats of Central’s first two games, they like to throw the football. They have an athletic kid at quarterback, so we'll need to pressure him. Offensively, if we can build off the momentum we’ve got from this last game and keep tweaking things, we should be able to move the ball. I think one of the biggest things that we’ll have to do is stay disciplined. Central is a physical team and we'll have to match their intensity between the whistles. I’m sure the guys will be ready to go, as the winner will move into second place in the league.”
