Swift Current Minor Football is looking forward to another successful season next fall with preparations for their third campaign well underway.

In March the SCMF held their annual general meeting and voted in a new board of directors consisting of: Bryan Braun, Arthur Ward, Tara Christianson, Mick McBean, Brian Vanstone, Trevor Fleischfresser, Steve Wegren, Jason Gatzke, Lane Francis, Rod Siemens, Bryce Sparks, Mike Davis, Ryan Capelle, Jason Nimegeers, and Jerry Peterson.

In addition past president Rod Siemens provided a summary of the 2008 season, noting that approximately 220 students from grades four to nine were involved in minor football. Once again the community support was excellent and Siemens thanked sponsors Shaw Cable, Co-operators, Meyers Norris Penny, South West Oilmen, Pinnacle Financial, Swift Current Fire Fighters, Red Head Equipment, Diamond Energy, Jay Dee Equipment, Swift Current Plumbing and Heating, Fabro, Stark and Marsh, and Swift Current Steel.

110 players for the 2009 season have already registered in three divisions ahead of the upcoming June 15th deadline when the registration fee will rise from $125 to $150. New president Bryan Braun indicated that this change was made to encourage early sign up to assist the Board in planning for the upcoming season.

Two registration opportunities still remain beginning on May 9th at the Comprehensive High School Football Field from 10 a.m.-2 p.m. and on June 11 and 12 at the Wheatland Mall. Registration forms can be found at www.leaguelineup.com/welcome.asp?url=scmf

On May 9th the Board has invited a member of the Saskatchewan Roughriders to attend and will have football stations for kids to participate in as well as a noon BBQ. The day is being planned in conjunction with the Football Saskatchewan Identification Camp that is planned for interested grade 9-11 high school football players in the Southwest.
