SACKVILLE - The Ross Refrigeration Cumberland County Cool Blues completed a home-and-home sweep of the Sackville Blazers in the Nova Scotia Junior Hockey League with a 4-1 road victory last night.
Murray Bavis, Cody Roach, Mark Rozak and Seth Crowe did the scoring for the visitors, who roared out to a 4-0 first-period lead. Andrew Court picked up the win between the pipes.
"We came out real strong and were able to play a solid defensive game from then on," said Blues head coach Dave Hyatt.
Sackville, which lost 7-3 in Springhi_ll on Friday, is in a tight race with St. Margarets Bay and Brookfield for playoff positioning, and could wind up being the Blues' first-round opponent.
"You never know when we could face them again, so it doesn't hurt to send a message," added Hyatt.
The win moved the Blues, who have already secured first place in the Fred Fox Division, a step closer to clinching top spot overall and home-ice advantage throughout the playoffs.
The only team that can catch Cumberland for first overall is the Pictou County Scotians, who would have to win all five of their remaining games and hope the Blues don't pick up two points in their final five contests.
Cumberland visits the Windsor Royals on Friday and Pictou County in a make-up game Saturday before returning home to the Dr. Carson and Marion Murray Community Centre on Sunday to take on the Strait Pirates at 7:30 p.m.
