The Swift Current Comprehensive High School Colts football team is ready to begin preparing for their first season in the Rangeland Football Conference in Medicine Hat.

Summer Camp will begin Friday August 22nd at 3:30 p.m. at the Comp. with equipment handout and fitness testing.

The following day will be the first full practice at 3:30 p.m. followed by 1 p.m. practices on Saturday and Sunday.

From August 25th -28th the Colts will hit the field at 3:30 p.m. leading up to an exhibition game in Medicine Hat against Crescent Heights High School on the 29th.

Colts head coach Derek Murdoch explained that Colts have some knowledge of what they will be up against in their new league.

"We kind of have an idea of what we are up against because one of our assistant coaches Curtis Noble is from the Hat and he knows a lot of the coaches. We went and watched their two final playoff games last season when we were done and got a bit of an idea what we are up against that way but you never know until you actually match up with them on the field."

Despite having some key holes to fill this season Murdoch likes the look of his team.

"We think that we do have some turnover and lost some keys guys on both sides of the ball last year. But we have good group of guys that have been around for two or three years who we think can step in and fill spots. As far as expectations go we are setting the bar pretty high. I would guess that when we get together we will probably say that we would like to host a playoff game and that would mean finishing first or second."

After leaving the Moose Jaw League last year the Colts found themselves on the outside looking in on provincials due to the fact that the league playoffs were also used as provincial playoffs in the 3A division. The Colts recently learned they will be able to participate in provincials this season although they have little details and are currently slated to participate at the 4A level against the top football programs in the province.
