PARRSBORO: For the first time in twelve years Parrsboro has a recreation director.
Twenty-eight year old Marc Chagnon was hired by the Town of Parrsboro at the first of June to fill this full time position.
Growing up in the Maritimes Marc said he has always liked the area therefore when the opportunity arose for Marc and his wife Annie along with their two children two-year-old Cameron and 18-day-old Averi to move to Parrsboro he jumped at the chance.
Graduating from NSCC Truro campus in 2004 Marc has gained experience as a trainer at CFB Wainwright in Alberta, working as a fitness consultant and as a trainer during his college years at the Truro NSCC campus.
Marc will be introducing Ultimate Frisbee to Parrsboro's recreation program along with Flag Football in addition to the traditional sports like soccer, tennis and basketball.
There will also be the day camps as in previous years.
"All the trips for the day camps are booked," Marc said.
"The YMCA is not part of Parrsboro's recreation program anymore but the concept of how things were run worked, therefore I've integrated a lot of those ideas into how the summer programs are run," the recreation director said.
The recreation director said there will be space for thirty kids per event with two instructors for sports and three staff members for the day camp program.
"When it comes to trips all five summer staff along with myself will be there," Marc said.
"One thing you can hope a recreation program can do for a town is give the kids something to do rather than just hanging around town getting themselves into trouble," Parrsboro's Mayor Doug Robinson said.
