A total of 26 Colt and Arden wrestlers attended their largest tournament to date at the Regina Miller Comprehensive Tournament on Jan 11-12.

Approximately 500 competitors from schools across Saskatchewan as well as two teams from Edmonton and an entry from Edson, AB, took part in the event.

The Comp. entered seven wrestlers in the Elite Boys Division, three in Elite Girls, nine in Novice Boys, and seven in Novice Girls.

Among the tournament highlights for the Comp. were a pair of gold medals in the Novice Boys division from Joe Begin and Kiefer Francis. Begin earned his second gold medal of his rookie season, while Francis continued the success he had in the gridiron with the Colts football team.

Also earning gold in the Novice Girls category was Kelsey Froese, a gymnast turned wrestler who coach Allan Blanke describes as a "natural on the mats."

Trevor Lachowitzer fought his way to a fifth place finish in the Elite Boys 54 kg category. Lachowitzer has great technique and has been a leader with the Colts all season.

Lindsay Hildebrand finished sixth in the Elite Girls 62 kg category. A second year wrestler, Hildebrand is noted for being a real competitor with great intensity. Unfortunately Hildebrand suffered a shoulder injury and was unable to complete her last match.

Coaches Dan Marchand, Blanke, and Lance Demeria noted significant technical improvements in the young team from their last outing and continue to stress the importance of technique, conditioning, and strength training.

Next action for the Colt and Arden wrestlers will be Feb. 8-9 when they attend the Saskatoon Bedford Road Tournament.
