SACKVILLE (Staff) - Weeks of preparation and years of hard work will be showcased Saturday afternoon when the Mount Allison Mounties play the Acadia Axemen in the first exhibition game of the season for both clubs.
Wanting to add to the momentum from last season, over 100 Mounties hopefuls showed up to fall football camp this year on Aug. 25 on the Mount Allison campus.
Looking fit and forward to an exciting challenge, this year's recruits, coaches, and veterans alike are practicing with great enthusiasm and are eager to begin their 2007 campaign.
On Saturday, Sept. 8, at 2 p.m., the Mounties were to be hosted by the Axemen in Wolfville for their season opener. However, that game will now be played in Halifax, at Huskies Stadium, at 12:30 p.m. as Acadia's field will not be ready in time as it is being converted to an artificial surface.
After game one, the second round opens in Sackville on Saturday, Sept. 15, when the Mounties host the Saint Mary's Huskies at 2 p.m. on MacAulay Field.
It should prove to be an exciting season for football enthusiasts in the Maritimes, especially at Mount Allison where the team will boast numerous talented regional players.
