MacAulay was recently named to the Basketball Nova Scotia under-15 provincial team. It was a long road and a lot of hard work for him to make the team.

"It's hard. It's different," MacAulay said regarding practices with the team so far. "I'm kind of tired now. It's tiring, but I like to be on the team. It's great."

The process started when he went to an open tryout after some encouragement from former coach Scott Armstrong. From there, he made the top 30. The top 30 were put through a series of fitness tests, all of which MacAulay finished first in. He then made the top 15 before making the final cut.

Right now the team practices four times per weekend at Mount Saint Vincent University in Halifax. Coaches Paul Mansfield, Ian MacRae and Jennifer Clarke gave him a training routine to follow in between weekends and also told him what they like about his game.

"They like the way I can communicate and the way I see the floor," he said. "I can run. I've got good endurance."

Vincent Pye, MacAulay's coach through junior high at Pugwash District High School, figures the provincial team made a good choice in picking MacAulay.

"He's a good player and he's getting better. Going to Halifax should help him as well," Pye said. "He's a tremendously athletic individual and the more he keeps his focus, the better he'll be able to perform. He has lots of positive upswing, but he's got a lot of growing to do as well."

Pye sees this as a great chance for MacAulay to improve and possibly get noticed by university scouts. He's also looking forward to what the point guard will bring back to Pugwash next season.
