The TeeJay Haichert rink will be one of 12 teams at the 2014 Viterra Scotties in Tisdale January 8-12.
The Swift Current team was among 10 in Regina for Southern Playdowns at the Callie Club and earned the last of four berths at Provincials. Haichert was joined by lead Allie McMillan, second Kelsey Dutton, and third Janelle Tyler.
Haichert lost her opening game to drop out of the A Event in a 7-1 loss to Jana Tisdale of the Highland Curling Club. Haichert scored her only point in the second end to trail 2-1 before surrendering singles in the third, fourth, and fifth ends and a double in the sixth to end the game.
Haichert’s stay in the B event was equally brief with a 6-5 loss to Biggar’s Brett Barber. The two teams exchanged deuces in the third and fourth ends before Barber took a 3-2 lead with a single in the fifth. Haichert scored singles in the seventh and eighth ends but Barber scored three in the ninth to take a 6-4 lead. Haichert was only able to score one in the 10th to come up short.
Haichert opened the C Event with a 7-4 win over Estevan’s Sherrilee Orsted. She trailed 4-3 after seven ends before scoring two in the eighth to take the lead and then stole two in the ninth for the win.
Haichert won her second straight game in the C Event to earn a spot at Provincials by beating Tisdale in a rematch. She trailed 4-2 after six ends but scored three in the seventh and two in the ninth to take a 7-5 lead and then stole one in the 10th to pull out the win.
Mandy Selzer, Lana Vey, and Brett Barber earned the three other spots out of the South. Ros Stewart, Trish Paulsen, Jill Shumay, and Teandra Friesen qualified out of the eight-team Northern Playdowns in Saskatoon.
These eight teams are joined by Stefanie Lawton, Chantelle Eberle, Amber Holland and Michelle Englot who had all pre-qualified for the Scotties based on World Curling and Saskatchewan Curling Tour events.
