Swift Current Indians
The visiting Swift Current Indians snapped the Melville Millionaires nine-game winning streak with an 11-8 win Sunday.
The Indians trailed 5-0 after two innings, scored seven straight runs to take a 7-5 lead, allowed three more runs in the fourth inning to trail 8-7, before scoring four unanswered runs to clinch the win.
Garrett Taggart earned the win in a five-inning relief appearance for the Tribe. He allowed four hits and three runs to pick up his second win of the season. Seth Haehl pitched a scoreless eighth and Cody Chartrand earned the save with a scoreless ninth inning.
The Indians only had nine hits in the game but scored 11 runs after combining 10 walks with four Melville errors even though they left 16 runners on base.
Bryant Munoz doubled, singled, scored three runs and had a run batted in to improve his average to .294. Danny Clifford also scored three runs with a double and two walks. Matt Henriksen singled, walked twice, scored twice, and had two RBI’s.
The win clinched top spot for the Indians over Melville in the Eastern Conference. The Tribe improved to 29-15 with two games remaining, while Melville dropped to 28-17 with their first loss since July 16 and only one game left in the regular season. The Indians won the season series 3-1 between the two possible second-round playoff opponents. The Tribe will now have home field advantage in the first two rounds of the playoffs.
The Indians will play their final home game on Monday in a first-round playoff preview when they host the Weyburn Beavers at 7:05 at Mitchell Field.
The Indians will visit the Western Major Baseball League leading Medicine Hat Mavericks on Tuesday to close out the regular season.
