Vikings earn fourth consecutive tournament title

SACKVILLE, N.B. - The Amherst Regional High School Vikings continued their impressive roll with a 76-64 win over the Mathieu Martin Matadors to capture the banner at the Tantramar Christmas Classic Basketball Tournament.
Game MVP Richard Hope led the Vikings with 22 points while Sammy Mohamad added 15.
Kevin LePage and Ryan Budd each had 14 points while Dylan Rushton scored nine for Amherst.
The teams were tied 38-38 at the half.
The Vikings made an adjustment to their three-two zone matchup, which proved to be the difference in the game.
This is the fourth consecutive tournament championship for the Vikings and the wins over the weekend extended the team's unbeaten streak to 15 games.
The Vikings opened with a 54-50 win over Mathieu Martin with Hope scoring 23 points and Budd adding 15.
Other scorers were Mohamad with seven as well as LePage, Patrick Neufeld and Shaddy Mohamad with two each and Ryan Thompson with one.
LePage scored 22 points and Hope added 14 as the Vikings defeated Oxford 70-56 in the club's second game.
Sammy Mohamad with 11, Dylan Rushton with eight, Budd with six, Thompson with four, Shaddy Mohamad with three and David Manuel with two also scored.
In the semis, Budd scored 30 points and Rushton chipped in 16 as the Vikings defeated the rival Tantramar Titans 75-60.
Hope with 25, Sammy Mohamed with 18 and Budd scored 14 for the Vikings while LePage with 12 and Rushton with nine also scored.
Amherst is in Summerside beginning Thursday for the Three Oaks Christmas Classic.
The opening game is at 8 p.m., against the Dalhousie Condors from New Brunswick.
