Doolys Blues prepare for season
AMHERST - After a successful 2007-2008 campaign, the Dooly's-Coors Lite Intermediate Men's baseball team is looking to do even better this year.
"We finished second in the provincials last year," team manager Barry 'Sparky' Anderson said. "We'll build on that this year and hope we do even better."
That means, first and foremost, good pitching.
"It's pitching first and athletes second," Anderson said. "You need good pitching, but you can put a good athlete in almost any other position."
Though it is a men's league, the team does accept players who are 16 or 17-years-old.
"We are still having tryouts for anyone who wants to come out," Anderson added. "Our nucleus from last year is back but we do have a couple of new guys who look good."
The team has a 28-game schedule in the Nova Scotia Intermediate Baseball?League with their first game of the season will be against the Windsor Knights on Sunday, May 18, at Robb's Centennial Complex.
"The season runs straight through until Labour day," Anderson said.
