SPRINGHILL - As the regular season winds down, hockey teams begin to gear up for what many call the real season; the playoffs.
The Cumberland County Cool Blues will be starting to get into the playoff mode when they play a home-and-home stand against the Pictou County Scotians starting tomorrow night at the Richard Calder Arena in Springhill.
"Pictou is a team we might meet in the first round of the playoffs," Cool Blue s coach Ron Reynolds said. "So we'll probably get some playoff atmosphere into it."
With only four games left in the regular season Reynolds said both teams are still looking to improve their standings in the league.
"They're still trying to get third place and we're still trying to clinch first overall, so it should be very entertaining for the fans."
The last time the teams met the Blues won by a score of 6-4 in Pictou County.
Reynolds said the Blues will use these last few games to build up towards the playoffs.
"For the next four games of the regular season we want to bring our game to a different level each game," Reynolds said. "Hopefully that will get us ready for the playoffs."
And it's not just on-ice where the players are looking to raise the level of their game.
"The boys are taking care of their conditioning and looking at their off-ice stuff as well," Reynolds added. "We are looking at a lot of areas where we have to be ready for the playoffs because you can do what you want all season but the playoffs is a totally different atmosphere.
"Every team has to up the anti, because if you don't up it a bit you end up behind the eight ball."
After the home and home stand against Pictou, the Cool Blues will finish the season off with two home games.
On Friday, Feb. 15, they will face off against the Antigonish Bulldogs, then on Sunday, Feb. 17, they will be matched up against the Cape Breton Canadians."
Colin Feehan is suspended for the remainder of the regular season after receiving a four game suspension for spearing in Port Hawkesbury last weekend.
