Blues continue winning ways
SPRINGHILL - It wasn't exactly a defensive struggle but the Cumberland County Cool Blues will take the two points after nipping the Strait Pirates 7-6 in Nova Scotia Junior Hockey League action at the Richard Calder Arena on Friday.
Andrew Brennan had four points on two goals and two assists and Colin Feehan had two goals and an assist in the win. Cody Firth also scored twice for the Blues, who host the Pictou County Scotians on Friday, while Seth Crowe scored once.
"It was a good win. It showed that we still need some work on our defence, but the guys gave it a good effort," Blues' coach Ron Reynolds said. "Once we get (Nathan) Lavigne and (Matt) Noiles back we'll do OK."
Crowe, Mark Rozak, Justin Landry, Travis Davis, Cody Roach, Ryan Smith and Marc Ouellette added assists.
Josh Wood and Luke MacDonald each scored twice for the Pirates while Shawn McManaman made the most of his return to Springhill scoring once. Daniel Hickey had the other Strait goal.
Landon Crowe was solid in goal for the Blues stopping 31 of 35 shots.
"We've never been in this position before. We have to stay focused and keep playing hard. Now we're the team everyone's trying to beat," Reynolds said. "Before we were a team trying to get wins."
After hosting Pictou County on Friday, the Blues travel to Antigonish on Sunday.
