SPRINGHILL - The Cumberland County Cool Blues scored six of their eight goals on special teams en route to an 8-1 victory over the Brookfield Elks here Sunday.
The Blues avenged a 5-4 loss from one night earlier.
Ryan Smith, Shane O'Byrne and Cody Firth scored powerplay goals for Cumberland while David Burke, Nathan Lavigne and Cody Roach added shorthanded tallies for the Blues.
Smith's second of the game was at even strength and Hughie McCuish added a second period goal.
Justin Smith replied for the Elks who trailed 3-1 after one period and 7-1 after two stanzas.
Roach chipped in with three helpers while Firth and Andrew Brennan with a pair of assists each and Travis Davis, Smith, goaltender Matt Kimber, David Burke and Kirk Kelly added one helper each.
Kimber stopped 19 of the 20 shots he faced and Brookfield's Darcy Baskin stopped 24 of the 32 shots sent in his direction.
On Saturday at Brookfield, the Elks edged the Blues 5-4.
Daniel Bock, Alex Terry, Liam Atkinson, Jay Duffy and Richard White scored for the Elks while Cody Firth netted a pair and Travis Davis and Nathan Lavigne with one each, replied for the Blues.
The Blues have a busy week ahead of them as they prepare for the first game of the regular season on Thursday night at 7:30 p.m. against the East Hants Penguins.
The Blues return home Friday to face the Windsor Royals in a 7:30 p.m. matchup at the Dr. Carson and Marion Murray Community Centre and then will host Kensington, P.E.I. in an exhibition contest Sunday, Sept. 20 at 7 p.m
In other action from Saturday, the Strait Pirates edged the Antigonish Bulldogs 4-3 in a shootout.
Marc Levangie with a pair and Daniel Hickey and Josh Wood scored for the Pirates while Brett Bedecki with two and Ryan Kennedy repl;id for the Bulldogs.
At St. margaret's bay, the Bay Ducks handed the Cackville Blazers a 9-5 defeat.
Brett Jones and Tom Cook scored two goals each for the Ducks while Andy Fleck, Trevor MacLean, Mark Higgs, Matt Slaunwhite and Travis Whiteside scored one goal each.
Dan Fougere, Trevor Wadden, Patrick Grew, Tyler Blinkhorn and Richard Kerr replied for Sackville
On Friday night, the Windsor Royals edged the Ducks 6-5.
Dylan Shearer, Keith Burgess, Fraser Roddick, Mikki Levy, Devin Piccott and Cody Hebb scored for the Royals while Adam MacPhee, Keith MacDonald, Travis Whiteside, Andy Fleck and Brett Jones replid for the Ducks.
