AMHERST (Staff) - The Mixers scored five runs in the fourth inning and rallied for four more in the sixth to defeat the Cumberland Paving Cubs 10-9 in the opening game of the Amherst little league A system final last night.

Josh Lee drove in Alex Embree with the winning run when his hit was mishandled by the Cubs' third baseman.

Early on it appeared as the Cubs would run away with the opener over the pennant-winning Mixers scoring four runs in the first inning and adding three more in the second to grab a 7-1 lead. The Mixers chipped away at the lead and won it in the sixth.

Embree went the distance on the mound for the Mixers giving up eight hits, walking two and striking out six while Joe O'Dell suffered the loss in relief of starter Jaret Collins. They gave up seven hits, walked 13 and struck out seven.

Emmitt Smith and Joel Boyle each had two singles for the Mixers while Lee, Lucas Chapman, Brady Davis and MacKenzie Colford added singles. Brad Jennings tripled and singled for the Cubs and Matt Hunter doubled. Collins, O'Dell, Lucas Dowe, Jordan McManaman and Willie Legere each singled once for the Cubs.

The second game of the series goes Monday at 6 p.m. at the Ernie Landry Memorial Field.
