SPRINGHILL Old school baseball fans in this community will be reminded of some fond memories in the near future.

Springhill Minor Baseball president Jim Melanson has been at work for a year on a project that will see the only two living members of the former Springhill Fencebusters senior baseball squad come together for a reunion at the Dr. Carson and Marion Murray Community Centre on Friday, July 13.

Surviving former players Harold Crawford and James W.M. McNutt will be honoured along with the other 96 members of the baseball team that entertained the town of Springhill from 1920-1951.

Family members of the deceased players are expected to be in attendance.

Each kid in Springhill minor baseball will be represent a former player by donning a uniform with a Fencebusters name on it and will be given a short biography on the player.

The Fencebusters were very successful in their tenure in the Nova Scotia Senior Baseball League, capturing championships in 1921, 1922, 1925, 1927, 1928, 1933, 1936, and 1945. A number of the players have also been inducted to the Nova Scotia Sport Hall of Fame.

Melanson said the reason behind the event is to preserve what was a big part of Springhills history.

The thing behind it, the bottom line, to get their uniforms and put their names on it, letting the kids wear it, is itll go on for years and years and years, Melanson said.

The reunion starts at 1:30 p.m.
