Under-12 girls had 11-1 regular season record

Fundy will represent the Highland Soccer League at provincials Sept. 6-7 in Hebbville

AMHERST – The Under-12 girls Highland Soccer League championship came down to penalty kicks, and in the end it was Fundy prevailing 4-3 over North Nova Falcons Thursday night on the Church Street soccer pitch in Amherst.

Katie Baker and Keira Dyck scored one penalty kick each for Fundy to capture the title, while Megan MacKenzie scored the lone North Nova penalty kick.

Down 1-0 in the second half, Fundy’s Brianna Warwick tied the game 1-1 late in the half, forcing overtime.

Elizabeth Lirette put Fundy up 2-1 in the first overtime, but North Nova’s Georgie Gunn answered in the second overtime, tying the game 2-2 and forcing the game to go to penalty kicks.

Fundy will represent the Highland Soccer League at provincials Sept. 6-7 in Hebbville.

The Under-12 girls finished the regular Highland Soccer League season with 33 points. They had a record of 11-1 record, with their only loss coming at the hands of North Nova on Aug. 11 in New Glasgow.

North Nova was second in the league with 20 points, followed by the Truro CC Riders with 11 points and the Antigonish Celtics with four points.
