Fundy Under-14 girls head to provincials this weekend

The girls earned the right to represent the Highland League after a 2-1 victory over the CC Riders

AMHERST – The Fundy Under-14 girls are travelling Bridgewater this weekend where they will compete at the 2014 Under-14 girls Tier 2B Provincials.

The team recently received first place medals after beating the Truro CC Riders by a scored of 2-1.

The first goal was scored by Darcy Gould at the 22-minute mark, and after Truro tied the game with only five minutes remaining Olivia Merlin scored the game winner for Fundy on a penalty shot with less than a minute left to play.

The win means that Fundy will represent the Highland League in the eight-team tournament.

Their first game is Saturday at 12 p.m. against South Shore 1, and their second game is Saturday at 4 p.m. against Harbour East.

On Sunday they play against the Valley at 10 a.m.

The bronze medal game is Sunday at 1 p.m., and the gold medal game is Sunday at 3 p.m.
