“We played good but we ran into pitching problems,” said Paul Sharpe, coach of the mosquitos.

“I have eight kids who aren’t even mosquito age, so we did good,” said Sharpe.

The Mosquito Fencebusters travelled to Woodside for the provincials where they made it to the quarterfinals. The Fencebusters are: (laying down, front) Mattix McBurnie, Kalen Burke, Ryan Lowther (laying down, right), (kneeling from left) Cohen Joudrey, Avery Smith, Lucas King, Selenia Aubichor, Michael Varner, Aiden McBurnie, Carter Sharpe, Trey Smith, assistant coach Randy Smith, pitch counter Daniel King, assistant coach Bernie Lowther and head coach Paul Sharpe.

SPRINGHILL – The Mosquito Fencebusters attended the seven-team Mosquito B provincial championships last weekend in Woodside and lost 15-5 to Hantsport in the quarterfinals.

“We played good but we ran into pitching problems,” said Paul Sharpe, coach of the mosquitos. “If you pitch 75 pitches in a day you can’t pitch for the next four days.”

The mosquitos are a young team.

“I have eight kids who aren’t even mosquito age, so we did good,” said Sharpe. “I have them all coming back next year except one, so we have all kinds of time with these kids for mosquito baseball.”

There are also 30 kids playing on two rookie teams, which is one division younger than the mosquito’s.

“That’s a good sign that baseball is still strong in Springhill,” said Sharpe.

Sharpe coaches his son Carter.

“He’s a good coach, and he didn’t get kicked out of a game this year but he came close a couple of times,” said Carter. “I had a fun season.”

Sharpe thanked Springhill businesses that made the $3,000 trip to Woodside possible.

He also thanked his mom, Bev Sharpe, for raising money selling turkey burgers, and he thanked the Bates Merrill Memorial Foundation for donating $500 for the trip.
