Y’s Guys win A system consolation over Mixers

The Cumberland Paving Cubs nipped the Lions to take a lead in their final series with the Lions, while the Y's Guys won the consolation final series over the Mixers on Thursday.

AMHERST – Ethan Casey hit an RBI triple and Cal Hoeg threw a five-hitter as the Cumberland Paving Cubs defeated the Lions 3-2 to take a 2-1 series lead in their best-of-five Amherst Little League Baseball championship series here Thursday.

Game 4 is Monday at 6 pm.

Hoeg gave up two walks and struck out 10 for the Cubs while Cole Stevens was equally strong, giving up four hits, walking three and striking out seven.

The game saw several outstanding defensive plays including a running catch in the gap by Cubs’ centerfielder Mika Porter and a full-extension diving catch by Lions’ right-fielder Julian MacDonald.

Ty Beed, Audrey Hoeg and Reese McLean each had singles for the Cubs, while Brayden Nichols and Julian MacDonald each singled and doubled and Graden Chitty and Jordan MacKenzie singled for the Lions.

The Y’s Guys won the A system consolation with an 11-4 win over the Mixers to claim their best-of-three series in three games.

Jackson Comeau tripled for the Y’s Guys while Jake Adams, Tyler Baker, Jayden Matheson and Jeremiah Martin each singled once.

Jackson Colborne singled twice and doubled for the Mixers with Reese Blakeney adding a single.

Tyler Baker earned the win for the Y’s Guys giving up seven walks and striking out nine while Reese Blakeney suffered the loss. He gave up nine walks and struck out one.

In B system actin, Sprott Power defeated Harrison’s 11-6 to equal their best-of-three final series at a game apiece.

Burke Beed, Tyrell Porter and Kirkland Porter each hit two singles for Sprott Power while Dylan McManaman, Logan Pipes, Alex Herrett, Brandon LeBlanc and Michael Noiles each hit singles.

Mattix McBurnie singled and doubled for Harrison’s while River Sears Tower, Kieren Sears, Phoenix Remington, Carter Sharpe, Brady Gill and Ethan Rose each singled once.

In the opener, Harrison’s nipped Sprott Power 5-4 as Phoenix Remington and River Sears Tower each doubled and Ethan Rose, Carter Sharpe, Keona Debay and Mason Porter each singled once.

Chloe LeBlanc, Dillan McManaman, Tyrell Porter, Michael Noiles, Alex Herrett and Kyler Edwards each singled for Sprott Power.

The final game is Tuesday at 10:30 a.m.

In the B consolation, the Jr. Y ‘s Guys defeated Sobeys 11-7 to win the consolation title.

Cameron Baigent singled twice and doubled for the Jr. Y’s Guys while Hayden Crockett, Nolan McNally, Jesse Goodwin and Jaxon Reynolds each singled twice. Ryder Codling, Mandel Nickerson and Jesse Stevens each singled once.

Reese MacDonald singled three times for Sobeys with Caleb Oulton, Kyler Edwards and Connor O’Brien each adding two singles. Salem DiMichele, Jackson Reid, Ryan Rideout and RJ Landry singled.
