Playoffs start Monday at 6 p.m.

Chitty pitched the winning game, striking out 14 batters, while giving up six hits and six walks.

AMHERST – It was a back and forth pennant game Thursday night, but in the end the Lions prevailed over the Cumberland Paving Cubs by a score of 4-3.

With the win the Lions won the 2014 Little League regular season pennant.

“It was a really close game. It was a back and forth, nail-biter, and they gutted it out and won her,” said Neil MacDonald, Lions assistant coach. “And the Cubs played a really good game. They were really disciplined and hit really well. They have a lot of all-stars and it was close to the finish.”

MacDonald says the pennant win didn’t come as a big shock.

“The boys were favoured from the start of the season,” he said. “We had two really excellent return players, Cole (Stevens) and Cheddar (Graden Chitty). They really took the ball and rammed it this year.”

Chitty pitched the winning game, striking out 14 batters, while giving up six hits and six walks.

Stevens hit two doubles for the Lions, and Chitty and Julian MacDonald hit one double and one single each.

Declan LeBlanc and Braden Nichol hit one single each.

Cal Hoeg pitched for the Cubs, striking out eight batters, and giving up eight hits and five walks.

Ethan Casey hit a double and a single for the Cubs, Hoeg hit one double, and Brandon Hicks, Ty Beed and Kyle McCarthy hit one single each.

The playoffs start Monday at 6 p.m.
